Our club

The club was formed in 1981 by a group of early windsurf enthusiasts who were committed to growing this new water sport.

The club operated out of a field and then the visitor centre for many years before the club house. Our clubhouse on the loch is past the visitor centre after the sailing club. It is a gated location with storage for all boards and training equipment. We offer on all windsurf preparation and land training at our clubhouse.

How to join

Join us as a new member on the water at Castle Semple Loch. New Members are Always Welcome at our Club. Come down on a Tuesday or Thursday for a chat and look around our Windsurf club. Membership of Clyde Windsurfing Club (CWC) is open to everyone whether you are a family, a couple, a single adult or a junior under eighteen, we have a category for you

The easiest way for beginners is to start with one of our training courses. Our course fees include instructor training and all your required equipment hire, wetsuit and buoyancy aid. All of our courses follow the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Schemes and aim to develop individuals in the sport.

CWC offers high quality training programs to members and prospective members. We have a team of enthusiastic RYA qualified windsurf Instructors (WIs). All activities are supervised by one of our RYA senior instructors (SIs). Our programmes supports our junior and adult members with opportunities to become RYA assistant instructors. This is to support instruction and coaching with the first step to becoming a windsurf instructor.

Windsurfing is not Expensive

Our CWC windsurf training courses include club membership for new members for your first year. You will be able to use club windsurf boards, wet suits & safety kits once you have completed your training. We have club boards, wetsuits, and buoyance aids for member hire.

This is one way you can get started in this great outdoor activity without making a big investment.

Our club equipment hire is on a Pay As You Go (PAYG) basis. Currently it is £5 to hire a complete set of kit for one session. CWC makes windsurfing more accessible to those on low income. We operate a sliding scale to price our training activities. More details are available for our club senior instructors.

Club Safety Measures

CWC is a relatively safe place to windsurf. Castle Semple Loch as it is shallow, and you can stand up in most places and the water is less than adult waist height or less than 1.5m at the deepest.

CWC takes steps to ensure our members & visitors safety on the Loch.

The club operates a safety boat on all courses. The safety boat is launched by proficient members in case a windsurfer is in difficulty. The club has an active safety boat presence during advertised times on Tuesdays and Thursday to improve the confidence of its members.
